'Phir' Repeats Adah and Rajneesh of '1920'

For a fresh actor getting a good break with a top production banner and an established director at the helm of things is a tough task to achieve in the highly competitive Tinsel Town.
If a new actor having none to point out as the godfather gets such a good break, then he or she has got the first firm step to stand on.
And if the first movie turns out to be a hit, then the term 'extremely lucky or fortunate' is the only one which can be attributed to the persons who have tasted success.
So Rajneesh Duggal and Adah Sharma can both be called as severely lucky to have landed up roles in the horror film '1920' which has proved to be the second coming of the director Vikram Bhatt also as he was going through a lean patch for sometime now.
The success of '1920' has ensured both the lead actors a three film deal with the production house ASA Productions & Enterprises Ltd.
The first of the three films is called 'Phir'. The film is touted to be a suspense-thriller to be directed by Girish Dhamija.

Interview With Adah Sharma about 1920

Our first interview with Adah had left us with a distinct feeling that we were talking to someone who would be around in the industry for a long time. The success of 1920 seems to have proved our instincts right.
The film is shaping up to be a runaway success, with word of mouth publicity pulling youngsters to multiplexes in droves, often to see if they can calmly sit through a scene that totally spooked them the first time!

Adah Sharma in a still from '1920'
In a follow up email interview on Thursday, September 25, two weeks after the release of 1920, Adah Sharma answered our questions with a delightful mix of humility, wit and candor.
We were tempted to start the interview by first asking her if she had brushed of the horrible stains on her teeth in the film, but we dropped the idea lest the 'shaitan' in her gets provoked to come after us with a blood curdling hiss and throaty yell!

Into the end of its second week, '1920' continues to draw good attendance at multiplexes in the NCR. Have you been pinching yourself to make sure you are not dreaming?
Signing 1920 was a dream !!! Well a nightmare for those who watched it :) but a dream for me...a dream that I'm still living ... even if I have woken up… the after effects are still on... so yes it feels great that the audience are enjoying it.

Your performance has been generally well received by audiences. We believe you have a good screen presence and an expressive face. What is the feedback that you have been getting?
Excellent feedback... the emails and calls I am getting! People are repeating phrases from the film "tick tock tick tock" and "test test test test." Some people told me they haven't slept after watching the film. People have enjoyed the film which is most important…the film is entertaining, I guess that's why we have people who are going to watch it again and again.

When we asked Vikram Bhatt if Adah and Rajneesh Duggal are on their way to becoming stars, his cryptic response was, "They are already stars!" Any comments?
Vikram sir is a very intelligent man and he is saying nice things about Rajneesh and me, so i think we should go along with what he says…I have had complete belief in him since ‘1920’.

You are not a trained actress and the role you essayed wasn't based on experiences that you could relate to in real life. Did that limit your performance?
I am not a trained actress. I consciously did not train because I didn't want to act perfectly. I train in dance so when I dance it looks rehearsed. I didn't want my acting to looked rehearsed. I didn't want to laugh showing 7 teeth and cry technically and have a practiced angry reaction. But I was taught a lot on the job!
I played the role of a violent evil MAN!!!! Yes that was challenging because I am not a man, I am a woman, and I am not violent or hysterical…usually! I believe if an actor limits her acting abilities only to experiences in actual life there's not much to do. for example if I want to play the role of a rape victim, a nun, a carpenter, drug addict I should be able to play it with as much conviction as I would play a college girl. I have a very imaginative mind so no, it did not limit my performance.( Edward Scissorhands is one of my favorite films and when I watch Johnny Depp he's so convincing I believe he has scissors for hands)

Do you believe in the super natural?
Anything beyond the natural is supernatural for me... me being part of the film industry is supernatural.. being part of '1920' is supernatural.. shooting in -10 degrees is supernatural!! I guess '1920' being a hit has something to do with the supernatural as well. My entire life seems to be a supernatural experience...

Rajneesh Duggal & Adah Sharma together in Phir

After the success of 1920, newcomers Rajneesh Duggal and Adah Sharma have become the talk of the town. What's more, the duo has even bagged a three-film deal with the makers of 1920.
While 1920 was the first film of this deal, the next film is Phir directed by well-known writer turned director, Girish Dhamija (who made Yakeen earlier).Producer-director Vikram Bhatt confirmed this news saying, "Yes after 1920, Rajneesh and Adah will be seen together in Phir. The film is a suspense-thriller drama and also stars well known TV actress Roshni Chopra. It is directed by Girish Dhamija and goes on floors next month."
Vikram meanwhile will start work on his next film, Shapit, which marks the debut of Aditya Narayan as the lead actor."

ASA Productions and Enterprises Ltd’s ‘1920′ the latest venture by Director Vikram Bhatt had its magnificent Coffee Table Book launched recently at JW Marriott in style!!

The highlight of the fun filled soirée hosted by Surendra Sharma of ASA Productions and Enterprises Pvt Ltd was the launch of the book by Adnan Sami, Music director of 1920, amidst a lot of fanfare. The beautifully crafted coffee table book has been designed by Atmanand (Studio Link) to the theme of the film and gives the reader a feel of an era gone by.

Also present with their full fledged support were Director Vikram Bhatt, Producers Surendra Sharma, Amita Bishnoi, Bhagwanti Gabrani from ASA Productions and Enterprises Pvt Ltd, the debutants of the film, main leads Rajneesh Duggal and Adah Sharma, actress Anjori Alagh, Raj Zutshi, Vipin Sharma, Vallab Vyas, Amin Haji, Ashish Pradhan, Smita Hai, Rushitaa Pandyaas as well as the entire unit of 1920.

Bollywood came out in full force to show their solidarity to Vikram Bhatt. Mahima Chaudhary and sister Manjari made a cute pair. Nagma was seen on the circuit after quite a gap. Koel Purie and Nauheed Cyrusi gave each other company and enjoyed posing for the photographs. Dino Morea made a quick appearance and left. Aashish Chowdhry, Vidya Malvade, Shahwar Ali, Kailash Kher, Bali Brahmabhatt, Kunal Ganjawala and Gayatri Iyer were also present. The TV brigade was represented by Indraneil Sengupta and wife Barkha Bisht, Shehzad, Bakul, Sudesh Behri, Dilip Thandeshwar. Naseem Sidiqui, surrounded by security, also graced the event.

Vikram spoke about this event being different from the usual run of the mills ones. He spoke about his cast and thanked the rest of the team while quipping that Adah Sharma was definitely not his girlfriend! Adnan also thanked Vikram for allowing him to make a different kind of music and expanding his own personal horizons. They showed the snapshots of the book and the trailer of the film.

Said Producer Surendra Sharma on this occasion, “There is only one way to make a film and that is to believe in an idea and backing it with everything you have got. We thought that a classic period horror was a novel idea. The horse carriages and the mist and the old haunted castle and the lovers and the haunting…..What is exciting to watch has to be first exciting to make. Blase only makes for blase viewing….”
Adds Director Vikram Bhatt in the same vein, “The story is like a tune that a director has in his mind. He closes his eyes and feels the different sections of the orchestra…only that it is in his mind and does not exist really. So he needs that orchestra and with that orchestra sometimes it is cacophony, sometimes it is not a great tune, sometimes it is discordant and then sometimes its great music. All playing in perfect harmony and unison. 1920 is that harmony and this Coffee Table Book is an ode to that harmony. Our way of telling you how we all and by that I mean all the various departments of this film played that one tune that we all believed in….Its the faith in each other that makes an orchestra. This book is that faith.”

“1920″ launches two new talents, Rajneesh Duggal who is already a well known model and Adah Sharma. Set in the year 1920, the film traces the love story of an Indian boy and an English girl, set in locales from the vintage areas of Rajasthan of 1920 to Mussoorie and Bombay and a resort in the Himalayas. The two get married despite heavy opposition and the story unfolds on the premises of a supernatural thriller.
The music is by Adnan Sami with lyrics by Sameer. Songs by Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Kailash Kher, Shubha Mudgal have been rendered while the great Pandit Jasraj makes his Hindi film singing debut in the film, with a special item song by Rakhi Sawant as well!

Review of Adah Sharma Starrer 1920

After a series of Box Office duds, Vikram Bhatt is back with vengeance in his latest endeavour. Bhatt’s ‘1920’, which released all over this Friday, has lived up to the viewer’s expectations, as the film has some very terrifying moments. The film boasts of a gripping story that culminates in a horror-mystery.
‘1920’ is Bhatt’s second attempt in the genre of horror flicks, after his previous scary movie, ‘Raaz’. With its story based on love, lust and supernatural forces, ‘1920’ has most of the elements that one expects from a horror film, but the only problem is that the story slows down at regular intervals and that robs the film of its thrill to some extent. Besides, the reason why the spirit seeks vengeance - could've been more forceful. Nevertheless, numerous scary moments in the film clearly outdo the weakness in the script.

The year is ‘1920’ and the house isolated in the backwoods has a secret past. Arjun (Rajneesh Duggal) and his wife (Adah Sharma) move into the house. The house is set for demolition and a hotel is slated to be built on the plot. Rajneesh, who happens to be an architect, is on a contract with the task of constructing the hotel.

But two move into the house unaware of the fact that the house has been waiting for them, and very soon, strange and inexplicable events start taking place and that’s when they realize that this isn’t going to be as easy and convenient. They come to know that every architect who had previously moved into that house had died under mysterious circumstances.

But the film actually scares you when the spirit takes over Adah's body. Thereafter, incident after incident catches you unaware. The final scene when Rajneesh chants the Hanuman Chalisa - is another best moment.

‘1920’ promises to be Vikram Bhatt's finest work. Both Rajneesh Duggal and Adah Sharma have potential to make it big in Bollywood. Adah is exceptionally brilliant in her performance.

On the whole, 1920 is an engrossing film, a fairly good attempt by director Vikram Bhatt.

Three out of five stars.

Meet Adah Sharma – Bollywood's latest beauty

As an adolescent, Adah Sharma wanted to do too many things. She eventually found a profession where she could fulfill her dream.

That profession is acting – where she daubs the greasepaint and gets to play varied characters that she once dreamt of being, be it a housewife or a model or an architect or a vet.

Coming from a non-filmi background, it wasn’t easy for Adah to get her foot in the door to Bollywood. Her father is in merchant navy and her mother is a Yoga instructor. Adah did her schooling from a convent school and graduated in psychology from Mumbai University.

Though Adah had been getting film offers for quite some time, things did not fall in place until Vikram Bhatt’s 1920 in which she makes her Bollywood debut opposite Rajneesh Duggal .

Looking back, Adah sees her struggle from a philosophical perspective. She says she auditioned for various other projects but ‘1920’ turned out to be her first film because that is how it was destined to be.

The movie is a period horror flick in which Adah plays an Anglo-Indian girl married to a Hindu guy.

Adah says besides being a horror movie, ‘1920’ tells a touching tale of love.

Even as the film is slated to hit the theatres on September 12, Adah has already signed another film with Vikram Bhatt . But she isn’t willing to talk about it.

As of now, she has her fingers crossed for ‘1920’.
